Why You Should Be Using an Interferon Gamma Release Assay (IGRA) Over the Tuberculin Skin Test to Test Your Patients for TB Infection - Presented by Oxford Immunotec, Inc.

Session Type: Innovation Theater
Tuesday, November 8, 2011: 10:30 AM-11:15 AM
Hall F1 (Booth #789) (McCormick Place West)

Session Overview:
The TST has been used by Rheumatologists for over 100 years.  The introduction of IGRAs provides physicians a more accurate, reliable test.  IGRAs such as the T-SPOT.TB test eliminate many of the headaches associated with the TST such as multiple patient visits, subjective result interpretation and poor reliability in immunosuppressed patients.

Upon completion of this session, participants should be able to:

  • understand the critical role of TB testing in Rheumatology, and the risks associated with current methods.
  • understand the advantages and benefits of IGRAs over TST.
  • understand how to easily implement an IGRA in a Rheumatology practice.
